Why Reduce, Re-use and Recycle?
In today's consumer society, waste is a growing problem causing both financial and environmental burdens. In Australia, over 13 million tonnes of waste is produced each year - that's about 800 kilograms of waste per year per person! In our throwaway society, goods are often made for a cheap price rather than a long life. Many people are simply too busy or do not see the value in activities such as composting or reuse, increasing the waste to landfill. And as landfill space fills, sourcing new sites is problematic as no-one wants to live near a dump. We can all help by following the 3 Rs: R-one: Reduce waste. Buy quality items that last longer. Take your own shopping bags. Buy items with less packaging, or recyclable packaging. R-two: Re-use waste. Shop at Tip Shops! Think of creative uses for your waste. Compost your green waste. If you cannot reuse your useful materials, donate them to a charity or your local Tip Shop - someone else will. R-three: Recycle waste. Use the kerbside recycling service, or the drop off facilities at the landfill. Remember, at TTT, we also take items such as sump oil and scrap metals for recycling. And by adopting the 3 R's, you:
