What IS recyclable at Deloraine and Westbury Landfill Sites?

Everything that we produce is recycle-able to a large extent, but the stuff can only be collected when there is a market for the collected material. In many cases, when there is a 'market', the market does not pay the collector for the material! We accept materials if there is someone willing to pick it up. We are not paid for some of our recyclables. At both Deloraine and Westbury, we accept the following materials for recycling:

  • Cardboard, Magazines and Paper.
  • Milk and Juice Cartons.
  • Plastic Milk Bottles. Labelled "number 2".
  • Glass Bottles and Jars.
  • Aluminium Cans.
  • PET Plastic Containers. (#1 eg: juice or soft drink bottle).
  • HDPE Plastic Containers. (#2 eg: most coloured plastic containers).
  • Vinyl Containers. (#3 eg: cordial containers).
  • Steel Cans.
  • Steel Scrap.
  • Non - Ferrous Metal. (eg: anything copper, brass or aluminium).
  • Polypropelene Containers. (#5 plastic.)

What IS NOT recyclable at Deloraine and Westbury Landfill Sites?

  • Margarine / Butter / Yoghurt Containers.
  • Plastic Bags.
  • Plastic meat trays.
  • Anything without a "recycling number".

Tips for Recycling.

Check out what is NOT recyclable from the list above. For plastics - no number inside a triangle equals rubbish. We can take number 1, 2, 3 and 5 plastics.

Arrange your load so that the recyclable material is easy to get at before the rubbish.

Separate paper from cardboard. All paper goes into the same bin these days, including glossy paper and newspaper.

All milk and juice cartons are recyclable. Please rinse (smelly!) and remove the plastic pourers if they exist.

Just about all clear plastic containers are recyclable. Most are PET (#1) and some are Vinyl (#3). They all go into the "PET #1" bin. If it has a rocket bottom, it's in!
