Tasmanian Trash Transformers (TTT) is an innovative business, created from what was traditionally seen as a problem. Now in its fifteenth year of operation, TTT manage two landfill sites for the Meander Valley Council. This management is undertaken in a creative manner that challenges the usual stereotypes of what a waste disposal site looks like. The business transformed the site from a dangerous and offensive dump to a modern award winning recycling and waste management site. The management style specialises in waste minimisation, coupled with a professional approach and commitment to quality.

Tasmanian Trash Transformers employs nine people in both full time and part time positions. The mixture of skills and the participative nature of the workplace are the vital ingredients in the successful TTT team

The business activities at the sites include recycling, a resource recovery centre (Tip Shop), green waste composting, scrap metal recycling, landscape supply sales, second hand building materials sales, and community education. The unique approach has attracted a broad range of interest from other councils, professional bodies and communities, not only locally, but interstate and internationally.

This led to the growth of the business into the area of consulting, with the formation of Willis Chirgwin Consulting. Clients include regional waste authorities, businesses looking for waste management opportunities, Councils, and community groups; both in Tasmania and interstate as well as overseas.

Tasmanian Trash Transformers is an example of a business that has been created through vision, lateral thinking and sound business planning.
